Get More Out of Your Farm's Solar Energy

From milk cooling to ventilation and irrigation: your farm requires a lot of energy, even when the sun isn’t shining. EnergyKing tailors your solar panels, battery, and smart control system to the rhythm of your farm. This allows you to use more of your own electricity and get a better return on your investment.

With a battery, you can make better use of your own solar energy

On a farm, electricity usage is often highest early in the morning and again in the late afternoon. Milk cooling, ventilation, feeding systems, irrigation—that’s when everything is running. Meanwhile, the sun is at its peak around noon, when you need it the least.

Whatever you don’t use yourself at that moment is fed into the grid. And you only get a fraction of what you pay per kilowatt-hour in the morning and evening. That gap between what your feed-in earns you and what your purchase costs is where the return on your installation disappears. Your panels are there, but a large portion of what they generate simply passes your business by.

A battery solves exactly that problem. You use the energy you generate during the day whenever you need it. Your self-consumption increases significantly, and so does the efficiency of the solar system you already have or are considering.

Solar Panels That Actually Pay Off on a Farm

Barns, sheds, greenhouses, equipment sheds: a farm has a roof area that other businesses can only dream of. Plus, your business often operates seven days a week. That makes solar panels one of the most attractive investments you can make.

EnergyKing bases its calculations on your energy consumption, not on the size of your roof. Filling a roof with panels is easy, but a system that’s tailored to your actual energy consumption will give you a better return on your investment.

VLIF support or investment tax credit?

The VLIF is the Flemish Agricultural Investment Fund. It supports farmers and horticulturists who make sustainable investments—such as in a battery—by reimbursing a portion of that amount. For a battery, that’s 40%, and up to 50% if you’re under 40. Unfortunately, solar panels are no longer on the VLIF list, but you can take advantage of the thematic investment deduction for them.

The thematic investment deduction works differently: you don’t receive any money, but you can deduct an additional 40% of your investment from your profits, which means you pay less in taxes. This applies to solar panels, batteries, and heat pumps.

Important: VLIF funding and the thematic investment tax credit cannot be combined for the same investment. In most cases, VLIF provides the largest amount, but EnergyKing will calculate which option is most profitable in your specific case.
