That's right! Many air conditioning systems are actually air-to-air heat pumps. To heat a space, the outdoor unit extracts heat from the outside air and sends it to the indoor units. Portable air conditioners can only cool.

How much energy does an air conditioner use?

The type of air conditioner, the size of the room to be cooled, the capacity of your air conditioner, … These are all factors that affect your air conditioner’s energy consumption.
