Charge your electric car at home using solar power, pay less per kWh, and never have to worry about finding available public charging stations again.
Your car sits idle in your driveway for most of the day. That’s exactly where the opportunity lies. If you charge at home, you’ll quickly end up paying half as much per kWh as you would at a public charging station along the road. Plus, you can charge whenever it’s convenient for you. You come home, plug in the cable, and the rest takes care of itself.
Because a smart charging station doesn’t just charge at full power until your car is full. The smart control system takes into account how much energy your solar panels are generating, how much power your home still has available, and what the current dynamic prices are. Based on that, the charging station decides on its own when to charge, when to charge more slowly, and when to wait a moment.
The price of a charging station depends mainly on the brand and the distance between your fuse box and the charging station. Is the charging station far from your meter box, or does it require excavation? If so, the costs of the cabling and excavation work will have a greater impact on the price.
In addition, you decide how far you want to go. A wall-mounted model on your exterior wall or in your garage is the most cost-effective option. A freestanding charging station on your driveway requires a foundation and excavation work, so it’s more expensive. Smart control is also an option: it costs extra, but pays for itself with every charge.
Is your home at least 10 years old, and do you use it primarily for personal purposes? If so, you’ll pay only 6% VAT on your entire invoice—including both materials and installation. This applies provided that the charging station is installed at your home, in your garage, under your carport, or on your driveway.
There’s a big difference between a charging station that simply charges and one that’s smartly controlled. With the right controls, your car will always charge at the cheapest time.
Do your solar panels generate more power than your home is currently using? If so, that surplus goes to your car instead of being fed into the grid at a low feed-in tariff.
Your charging station is usually the biggest power consumer in your home. Load balancing checks how much power is still available and adjusts the charging power accordingly. Are other high-power appliances running at the same time? If so, your charging station will temporarily reduce its output rather than blow a fuse.
With a dynamic contract, the electricity price changes every 15 minutes: sometimes electricity is very cheap or even free, and sometimes it’s expensive. Your charging station automatically charges when electricity is cheapest.
How quickly your car charges depends on your home's electrical connection and on the car's own charging capacity.
However, fast charging isn’t always the smartest choice. That’s because part of your energy bill consists of the capacity charge, which is calculated based on your highest electricity consumption over a 15-minute period each month. If your charging station—which lacks smart controls—runs at full power, that peak will skyrocket immediately, and you’ll end up paying more than necessary.

We're happy to help you get started. Below, you'll find answers to the questions we're frequently asked about home batteries.
Yes, that’s perfectly possible. If you drive an electric company car, your employer can automatically reimburse you for the electricity costs of charging your car at home. In practice, this is done through a system called “split billing.”
How does it work? With split billing, your electric car’s electricity usage is automatically separated from your household usage. The charging station records exactly how much electricity goes to your car and sends this charging data to an online management platform. This platform bills the charging costs directly to your employer or leasing company, after which the amount is automatically refunded to your bank account. This way, you don’t have to pay out of pocket for your business mileage.
Bidirectional charging means that an electric car can not only draw energy but also feed it back into the grid. Thanks to this technology, your electric car can be used as a home battery.
Today, most of EnergyKing’s charging stations are already V2G-ready (either as standard or via an optional upgrade). This means they are technically capable of bidirectional charging, but the feature cannot be fully utilized until the regulations governing power feed-in are in place and automakers officially allow this option.
Technically, it's possible, but it's not a good idea.
A standard electrical outlet is not designed to supply 10 amps for hours at a time. The contacts heat up, and if the power strip is old or poorly connected, this can lead to overheating.
In addition, you’ll charge at a maximum of 2.3 kW, which is about 10 to 15 km per hour. A charging station charges three to five times faster, using a dedicated circuit with the proper safety features.
As long as your car has a Type 2 connector —which is the case for just about every electric car in Europe—any charging station installed by EnergyKing will work.
Charging your electric car requires a lot of power. To prevent power outages, there is a system called Dynamic Load Balancing (DLB). This system continuously monitors how much power is being drawn and intervenes when a critical threshold is approached.
How does DLB work? For example, by temporarily reducing the amount of power sent to a high-demand device—which, in many cases, is your electric car. But the reverse is also true! If your charging station detects that you’re barely using any power at a given moment, it will send more energy to your car.
Yes, when you install a charging station, a new circuit is added to your electrical system, and that addition must be inspected. This inspection is performed once, after installation. EnergyKing arranges the inspection for you through a certified external inspection agency, so your system is immediately compliant.
