EnergyKing Expands into Wallonia with the Acquisition of SunBelgium

Four men are standing outside on a sunny day, shaking hands in front of some greenery and a white railing behind them.
EnergyKing is acquiring SunBelgium, thereby gaining a foothold in Brussels and Wallonia for the first time. SunBelgium, which specializes in solar panels, home batteries, and charging stations, will continue to operate with the same team and the same founders. A branch office will be opened in Wavre.

Acquisition of SunBelgium

EnergyKing welcomes SunBelgium to the group. The company has been installing solar panels, home batteries, and charging stations for residential and commercial customers in Brussels and Wallonia for years, and has built a strong reputation there as a reliable and customer-focused provider.

With this acquisition, EnergyKing is expanding its operations beyond Flanders for the first time on a structural basis. It is also the first time the group has acquired a fully-fledged French-speaking organization.

Why Brussels and Wallonia

In recent years, EnergyKing has experienced strong growth, but that growth has taken place almost entirely in Flanders. This is not because there is no demand south of the language border, but because you cannot serve that market from a purely Flemish organization. To do so, you need people who live there, work there, and speak the language.

SunBelgium was founded by Jérôme Vanderzijl and Michael De Greef, who currently co-lead the company and will both remain on board. They have in-depth knowledge of the market, the customers, and the local premium systems.

“For a long time, Wallonia and Brussels were a blind spot for us,” says Wiet Vande Velde, CEO of EnergyKing. “Not for lack of ambition, but because you can’t serve a market like that from a distance. With SunBelgium, we’re bringing in a team that’s been there for years. That’s a lot more effective than starting from scratch ourselves.”

SunBelgium is also looking ahead. “We’re proud of what we’ve built here,” says Jérôme Vanderzijl. “By becoming part of EnergyKing, we can offer our customers a broader range of products, including heat pumps and ventilation systems. For our customers, we’ll remain the same trusted point of contact, but with more clout behind us.”

Local ties will be maintained

For the time being, SunBelgium will continue to operate under its own name, from its own locations, with the same team.

For customers, nothing will change in terms of who they speak with on the phone or who is working on the roof. What will change, however, is the product lineup: in addition to solar panels, batteries, and charging infrastructure, customers will soon be able to purchase heat pumps, air conditioning, and ventilation systems as well.

A logical next step in EnergyKing's growth

Since investor PE Capital Group joined the company in 2024, EnergyKing has been working on an accelerated expansion strategy. Following the acquisitions of Jokri (Kampenhout), JRB (Ninove), Energiecenter Geuns (Hechtel-Eksel), and Eco-Project (Aalst), SunBelgium marks the company’s first acquisition outside of Flanders. With this move, EnergyKing is transitioning from a Flemish player to a Belgian one.
