Tommelein launches solar map!

Zonnekaart, is the name of the new website launched by Flemish Minister of Energy Bart Tommelein. Via this website it is possible to check whether or not your roof is suitable for solar panels or a solar water heater. In this way, our Minister of Energy wants to make it even easier to check whether or not it is interesting to install a solar water heater and/or solar panels.

The creators of the website went about creating this application as follows.

"We analyzed accurate height measurements of Flanders to determine the area, orientation and slope angle of each of the more than 2.5 million roofs*. By combining this with detailed information from the RMI, we know the roof parts with a lot of sunlight and the shadow zones (caused, for example, by chimneys, other buildings or trees). Thus, each building (even each roof section of each building) received a score.
For buildings with a good score, we automatically calculate what solar panels and a solar water heater on the roof can cost and, more importantly, what they can yield!" Source: http://www.energiesparen.be/zonnekaart

However, you should keep in mind that this analysis is a general analysis. It is best to contact an installer before actually making a decision. He will help you further optimize the analysis already simulated by the solar chart. You should take into account that not every panel available on the market is included in the simulation model. So for a personalized analysis, it is best to contact an installer.
What exactly can you find out thanks to the solar map?

First, you can see if your roof is suitable for solar panels. This is represented by colors. a green color means an ideal roof location. A yellow color means a usable roof. An orange color means a limited usability of the roof. In addition, you get an analysis of the payback period. This allows you to see how long it will take you to recoup your investment. Finally, you can also see how much you will save annually on your electricity bill.

The launch of the solar card should further lower the threshold for installing a solar water heater or solar panels. In this way, Bart Tommelein wants to make full use of the potential that still exists on the road to more sustainable energy.
