Russian gas

At EnergyKing, we have been carrying the idea of investing in renewable energy for countless years. That those investments have paid off is hard to deny. Payback periods that we calculated 2 years ago to be 7 years have been reduced to 3-4 years due to the incredible increase in energy prices.

Are we happy with the faster payback on our products? Actually no, because although our mission is to invest as much as possible in renewable energy and move away from fossil fuels, above all we want people's wallets not to be affected.

We realize well enough that the recent increases will cause serious financial problems in a lot of families. And that does not help anyone.

Unfortunately, the outlook is not much better. Prices are certainly not going to fall in the next few years. Globally, there is an increasing demand for energy, and a massive lack of supply.

On top of that came the recent escalations between Russia and The West. Vladimir Putin still dreams of a renewed Soviet Union and wants Nato out of what he calls Russia's spheres of influence.

Russian gas cylinders

With the ongoing and escalating tensions between Russia and The West, many are afraid that Russia might be able to shut off the gas tap to The West as well. And that could be a serious problem, since 30-35% of European gas consumed today comes from Russia.

We do still depend very much on Russia. And it will remain that way for quite some time, because even if we invest more in renewable energy than we invested in the past, we will need at least 10 years to largely eliminate our dependence on Russia.

There is one bright spot. Russia also desperately needs the revenue and wants to be seen as a reliable trading partner. So really stopping supply is an unlikely scenario.

As crazy as it may seem, you can actually make the most impact on a personal level. A home equipped with solar panels, heat pumps and a home battery takes a tremendous step forward when it comes to your energy bills. Now that's true independence.

We ourselves believe that there are things in the world you can control and things you cannot control. You can't control Vladimir Putin, but you can decide to become more independent of gas yourself today.

You know where to find us 😉
